Jeep has confirmed it will launch a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of its Gladiator ute in 2025, as it continues its rollout of 4xe models.

Brand CEO Antonio Filosa confirmed the Gladiator 4xe's launch on LinkedIn, though he didn't specify when exactly the model will debut.

When it does launch, it will join 4xe versions of the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and Compass in Jeep's global PHEV lineup.

It's unclear whether it will come to Australia, as the related Wrangler 4xe is currently produced only in left-hand drive. Jeep Australia does offer the Grand Cherokee 4xe however, and will launch the Compass 4xe this year.

The Gladiator currently comes with a naturally aspirated 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine producing 207kW of power and 347Nm of torque, and starts at $78,250 before on-road costs.

In the US, the most affordable Wrangler 4xe – the four-door Sport S – costs US$10,000 (A$15,111) more than its petrol-powered counterpart, and the Gladiator 4xe could command a similar premium.

It's expected to share the Wrangler 4xe's PHEV powertrain.

This comprises a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated with two electric motors and a 17kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Total outputs are 280kW and 637Nm, with the Wrangler 4xe offering up to 35km of electric range.

An update for the petrol-powered Gladiator is due in Australia in the third quarter of 2024, which will bring updated looks alongside a redesigned interior that incorporates a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen.
