
Yarra libraries in community awards win
Yarra Libraries has been recognised with a Vision Super Local Heroes award for its extraordinary work providing food and other relief during the height of the pandemic.
In 2020-21, the service turned its North Fitzroy branch into a food relief centre and worked with NGOs to prepare and deliver more than 75,000 emergency meals.
Its community outreach team supported public housing residents with health information, isolation packs and help accessing vaccine certificates. It also distributed meals to international students and the homeless and set up a weekly food relief market at Atherton public housing estate.
