Melbourne-based artist, Eloise Thetford, 'Queenie', will release her first single at the Lulie Tavern on July 1 as part of Yarra City's Leaps and Bounds Festival.

LEAPS AND BOUNDS

Established in 2013 to give the local music industry a boost over winter, Yarra's City's Leaps and Bounds Festival focuses on local venues and artists, with a wealth of local talent and varied options on offer. Free events include the Record Fair at Collingwood Town Hall, Abbotsford, this Saturday, with over 50 sellers and thousands of records (9am-4pm), Bring it Home "dress-to-the-nines" older person's musical party, featuring musicians Wilbur Wilde and Alison Ferrier, special guests Robyn Archer, Derek Guille and the Ugly Uncles, the Crossing the Bridge Choir and cook Maggie Beer (Tuesday 1-3pm) at Collingwood Town Hall; 'Her Sound, Her Story' Australian women in music documentary with Q and A, at the Corner Hotel, (Tues 7-10.30pm); and 'Don't Thank Me, Spank Me! This illustrated lecture by art historian Dr Susan Scollay surveys embroidery and its makers, from historical masterpieces commissioned for cathedrals and palaces and embroidery as a domestic pursuit in polite Western society to the expression of symbolism in patterns stitched for significant stages of the human life cycle in traditional societies still connected to ancient beliefs and superstitions.
