
Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in Brunswick St, Fitzroy on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency services were called after the man, who has not yet been identified, was found in Brunswick St with life-threatening injuries shortly after 4.15pm.
Police believe the man was involved in an altercation with a number of people at a vehicle parked on Brunswick St before being shot.
Passersby who found the victim called triple zero but ambulance crews who arrived at the scene were unable to save him.
Police have cordoned off the area and established a crime scene.
Detectives are still working to determine the exact circumstances of the incident but say that it appears to have been a targeted incident with the parties involved possibly known to each other.
It is the 17th shooting in Melbourne this year and the second within days.
