The annual exhibition of the Australian Association of Street Photographers opens on Thursday, "an artistic and candid homage to the people that breathe life into the streets of Australia's cities and towns". The free exhibition, capturing the streets and "special moments" of Australia's cities, is open 10am-4pm every day until Monday, August 8. "Bring us your broken goods, and we shall try to fix them!" say the enthusiastic volunteers involved in this initiative, who repair household goods, mend clothes, fix broken furniture and make new things from used materials while minimising waste, sharing skills and "having a few cuppas together". Melbourne Cinematheque's 'Masterpieces of Ukrainian Cinema' season continues for another two weeks at ACMI. This Wednesday, July 27, at 7pm Alexander Dovzhenko's last silent film, Earth (1930), and at 8.35pm writer-director Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi's Cannes Critics' Week Grand Prix-winning debut feature The Tribe. Next Wednesday, August 3, at 7pm Ukrainian writer-director Kira Muratova's first feature, Brief Encounters, (1967), which was shelved for 20 years by Soviet censors.
