The Walmer Street Bridge, which spans the Yarra north of Burnley St and forms part of the Main Yarra Trail, will close this month for reconstruction work on its northern end.
Pedestrians and cyclists who use the bridge are being encouraged to consider alternative routes, particularly to the east via Findon Crescent and the west via the Gipps St bridge.
The work is due to start this week and is estimated to take around eight months. It involves the removal of four trees and will increase the bridge's width to create more space for pedestrians and cyclists, decrease the steepness of the access, improve the staircase and install handrail lighting.
