
Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a serious assault on a Richmond resident in Melbourne's CBD this month.
Police have been told the victim, a 57-year-old, was at a function at a hotel on Swanston St with work colleagues on Wednesday, March 2.
It is alleged the victim was assaulted as he left the venue about 11.50pm.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries.
A 35-year-old Moorabbin man handed himself in to detectives Tuesday, March22,, following an appeal for information.
He has since been charged with intentionally cause injury and recklessly cause injury and two counts of unlawful assault.
He has been bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on August 15.
