Work on the Chas Farquhar Community Hub, which includes the Richmond Kindergarten in Duke St, is set to be completed by early November and will increase the kindergarten's capacity from 28 to 66 places.
The project is jointly funded by a $2 million contribution from Yarra City Council and a $500,000 grant from the Victorian Government's Children's Facilities Capital Program.
The upgrades to the facility will incorporate a number of energy efficient features, including solar roof panels and the removal of gas.
Yarra City Mayor Sophie Wade said the new facility would have a positive impact on families.
