At least 32 people have been found dead in the wake of a landslide in eastern Congo.

Thinabu Kenge said heavy rainfalls began on Thursday, leading to flooding and mudslides in the city of Masisi.

Rescue crews have been working to assess the damage, rescue survivors and count the dead.

Much of the damage is focused on the communities of Rubaya and Bihambwe, where dozens of homes were damaged, said Kenge.

Rescue work was still ongoing on Monday. Congo's rainy season began in October and can last through May.
