Aldi supermarkets may soon introduce online shopping.

The company has ruled out any immediate online launch, but has hinted it will be "entering that space in the future".

Director of customer interactions, Adrian Christie, told a parliamentary inquiry on Monday he believes "there is significant share moving into the online space".

He said the company's foremost concern would be balancing its commercial commitment to low prices while possibly introducing new services.

"One of the major ways we are able to offer the highest quality groceries at the lowest prices is our streamlined business model that is focused on simplicity," Mr Christie said.

"While we are always looking at the environment and considering an online experience, we won't bring this forward until we have a model where associated overheads of e-commerce in no way compromises our ability to deliver low priced groceries to Australians."

In other news:

Aldi has previously toyed with the idea. A trial of its Special Buys availability online ended in August 2022.

Around 50 per cent of Aussie consumers shopfor food online, with about 15 per cent exclusively ordering groceries via the internet, per a 2022 Australia Online Grocery Study and Report.
