Surfer dies after stabbing at NSW beach

A surfer has died after he was stabbed at a beach on the NSW coast.

Emergency services were called to the car park at Coffs Harbour Surf Club on Ocean Parade about 6.40am on May 2.

WATCH: A 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed near the Coffs Harbour surf club car park on May 2.

The 22-year-old man had "significant stab wounds to his body", detective chief inspector Guy Flaherty said.

"The male was located at the side of an orange Ford sedan," he said.

"We believe he'd recently come out of the surf and was wearing a black wetsuit at the time."

The man was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital however police have since been advised that he has died.

A strike force has been established and an evidence search is under way in the area around the car park and beach, with the public asked to avoid the area.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Coffs Harbour Surf Club between 6am and 6.40am to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
