Suzuki is giving its recently launched Jimny XL SUV the Heritage treatment, after a special edition version of its three-door sibling sold out within five hours.

Just 500 examples are coming to Australia, priced from $36,490 before on-road costs – $1500 higher than the Jimny GLX manual it's based on, and $3000 higher than last year's three-door Heritage edition.

There'll be no automatic version available.

Deliveries will be based on the same queue process as other Jimny models in Australia, and the first arrivals will take place between late June and early August.

The company says the special edition "celebrates Jimny's vibrant 4×4 history from the 70s, 80s and 90s".

Suzuki is offering the Heritage only in five exterior colours: Jungle Green, Bluish Black, Granite Grey, White, and Ivory with a black roof.

Cosmetic changes include red mud flaps front and rear and Heritage decals, with the special edition also featuring a Jimny Heritage cargo tray and limited build badge.

That's over and above the list of standard equipment found in the regular Jimny XL GLX, which includes:

  • 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay
  • Wired Android Auto
  • DAB digital radio
  • 15-inch alloy wheels
  • Hill descent control
  • Automatic LED headlights
  • Front fog lights
  • Autonomous emergency braking
  • Lane departure warning
  • Front, front-side and curtain airbags
  • Reversing camera with rear parking sensors

Suzuki introduced the Jimny XL late last year as a longer, more practical counterpart to the regular Jimny, though it uses the same naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 75kW of power and 130Nm of torque.
