BMW's popular X3 looks to be in line for a radical redesign, with an image of the crossover leaking ahead of its expected reveal in the coming weeks.

Uploaded to the Spanish automotive forum Cochespias in addition to a number of social media outlets, the new BMW X3 appears to adopt a front end design which blends aspects of the new X1 and the electric iX.

This includes an even larger double-kidney grille with an illuminated perimeter, as well as new daytime running light signatures and a wide lower intake. In the pictured variant, the latter is accented by silver trim.

The presence of a charging port ahead of the front door suggests this version is a plug-in hybrid, likely an equivalent to the X3 xDrive30e of the current generation.

We can also see flush door handles along with smoother exterior lines, giving a slippery exterior appearance.

According to Bimmerpost forum user ynguldyn – who claims to compile future model information from BMW insiders – the new 'G45' generation X3 will enter production in August 2024, with most of its drivetrains carrying across from the current model.

It'll reportedly measure 4755mm long, 1920mm wide (excluding the mirrors) and 1660mm tall, while riding on a 2865mm wheelbase. This would make it 42mm longer, 23mm wider but 16mm lower than the existing X3.

Previous spy photos of camouflaged prototypes have shown BMW's Curved Display inside the cabin, placing the digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen in one assembly.

While the new BMW X3 will continue to be based on the brand's CLAR architecture, the electric iX3 is set to move to the Neue Klass electric vehicle (EV) platform. However, this isn't expected to occur until mid-2025.
