Clean sweep: budget dishwashing liquid named Australia's best

The best-performing dishwashing liquid on supermarket shelves costs a quarter of the price of its competitors, according to CHOICE.

The consumer group tested 50 detergents to determine the products giving Australians the best value for money.

It revealed three Aldi detergents were "streets ahead in terms of performance and price", director of reviews and testing Matthew Steen said.

"Aldi Tandil Ultra Power Soak and Tandil Ultra Quick Dry were clear winners, both scoring an impressive 90 per cent," he said.

"Tandil Ultra Odour Neutralising was the next best product scoring 85 per cent."

"Aldi's dishwashing liquids are also great bargains at the checkout at just 40 cents per 100ml."

However, not all of Aldi's detergents were equal in the eyes of the testers with its Tandil Ultra Antibacterial product scoring an equal-last 60 per cent.

"This goes to show that you should never assume that if one product cleans well, similar ones from the same brand will deliver the same results," Mr Steen said.

Each detergent was tested to see how effectively it cleaned plates dirtied with different food such as bolognese and egg yolk.
